Marco Benevento continues to reinvent himself with “Dropkick,” an instantly infectious dance rock number. To be released as a limited edition 45 single, the track hints at what’s to come from Benevento on his forthcoming studio album, The Story Of Fred Short, due Spring 2016. “Dropkick” has been popping up regularly as an encore in Benevento’s sets and finds the much adored pianist becoming a full-fledged singer, a component of his work that was only just introduced to his sound on last year’s LP, Swift. The b-side is Benevento’s take on The Crystals’ cult fave “Little Boy,” updated here as “Little Girl,” which presents a re-imagination of Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound production found on the original recording.
