Dans les années 70 on aurait sans doute classé, à tort, Fusion parmi les "super groupes", ces réunions d'instrumentistes virtuoses organisées par le show biz anglo-saxon dans le but de remplir les stades et de faire rentrer quelques subsides en enregistrant des albums souvent dispensables. C'est vrai que la composition du groupe, quatre individualités issues du groupe le plus important et le plus créatif de la scène française, Magma, se retrouvant sous un leadership collectif et communautaire, formé à l'automne 1980 sur la proposition de Jean-Marie Salhani, avait de quoi faire figure d'évènement.
Christian Vander officialisait ici son propre retour au jazz de son adolescence, délaissé depuis la fin de 1969, et symbolisé par la création d'Alien, groupe expérimental de jazz funky qui avait investi depuis l'automne 1979 le club mythique de la rue Saint-André des Arts tenu par Jacqueline Ferrari, club qui permit un brassage de musiciens unique sur la scène française.
In the 70s we would undoubtedly have wrongly classified Fusion among the "super groups", these meetings of virtuoso instrumentalists organized by the Anglo-Saxon show biz with the aim of filling stadiums and bringing in some subsidies by recording albums that are often dispensable. Christian Vander here formalized his own return to the jazz of his adolescence, neglected since the end of 1969, and symbolized by the creation of Alien, an experimental funky jazz group which had occupied the legendary club on rue Saint-Saint-Pierre since the fall of 1979 run by Jacqueline Ferrari, a club which allowed a unique mix of musicians on the French scene.
